7,000 pilgrims register for Amarnath Yatra

Jammu (PTI): Over 7,000 devotees have registered themselves during the past one week for the annual Amarnath Yatra commencing on June 15.

The registration began on May 20 at 110 centres set up at different branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the country. 

The bank officials said that till today over 7,000 devotees have got themselves registered, 4,700 of them in Jammu. 

Registration of pilgrims from the Pahalgam route will close on August two while that for the Baltal route will close on August four. The registration can also be made on-line through the Jammu and Kashmir Bank. 

The Yatra was postponed from June 7 to June 15 in view of heavy accumulation of snow on Phalgam-Chandanwari and Baltal-cave axis routes to the Amarnath shrine. 

The annual two-month pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine will conclude on August 5. 

Last year, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims had participated in the Yatra
