Yatra News
14- 16 foot long Lingam formed at Amarnath 2009 Srinagar: There is a good news for the
Lord Shiva devotees this year. Though the Amarnath yatra has been pushed
to mid June because of the heavy snowfall, but when the yatra will commence
the devotees will get to see the 14 foot Lingam at the holy site.
After last year’s land row, which threatened
to rip apart the state on religious and regional lines, the Amarnath journey
will start fresh this year.
The authorities this time are ensuring
the yatra would be a smooth affair but there are some noises already.
Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani
has objected to the extension of the yatra from two weeks to two months.
Heavy snowfall in the upper reaches
has already forced the postponement of the yatra to June 15 but efforts
have been redoubled to clear the path, before pilgrims arrive.
The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has also
installed a nine feet grill to protect the naturally formed Lingam
