Miss Nigeria is the new Miss World 2001 
Tonight at a glittering event LIVE from the Superbowl, Sun City in the heart of South Africa, Miss Nigeria was crowned, to a standing ovation from an audience of over four thousand people. In an unforgettable event spectacular, ninety-three of the world's most beautiful women competed for the coveted title of 'Miss World 2001' An exciting and tearful finale saw Miss Nigeria win her place in the history books, crowned by last year's winner Miss India, Priyanka Chopra, and supported by the two runners up, Miss Aruba in second place and Miss Scotland in third. 'UMOJO' spectacularly opened the show with a celebration of African dance and song joined on stage by all the Miss World contestants. This year for the first time telephone voting created by the 'Miss World You Decide' preview programme were added to the judges scoring, creating a real sense of anticipation as the leader board constantly changed throughout the evening. Additional prizes were awarded to Miss Barbados for Best Talent and Miss Korea for Best Evening Dress designed by KIM, Hee-Soo. Miss Thailand won Most Photogenic, this award was voted exclusively by visitors to the Miss World website with over fifty thousand people registering their votes. A new award this year the 'Hawaii Pacific University Miss World Scholarship' allowing one of the ninety-three contestants to study on the island of Honolulu for four years was won by Miss Costa Rica. But nothing could distract us from the real event of the evening, the moment Miss Nigeria Took her traditional ceremonial walk around the stage, emotional, beautiful and finally Miss World 2001 .....
