Priyanka Chopra with Her parents, Ashok and Madhu December 11, 2008. For Priyanka Chopra, the weekend is going to hold a special meaning. Her parents, Ashok and Madhu — both doctors — are organising a medical camp at Oshiwara. Here, 21 doctors will not just examine patients, but also impart informative tips on a healthy lifestyle and educate people about various ailments. “It’s our first camp since my parents arrived here from Bareilly seven years ago,” Priyanka says. “This camp takes me back to my childhood when I used to travel in ambulances with my parents. Dad was in the army and we drove to villages in Uttar Pradesh. I would watch mom and dad treating people, for free.” And yet her parents’ dedication didn’t inspire her to follow in their footsteps. “A doctor’s role is like playing second to God. I don’t have the jigar for it,” she smiles. But the idea of this camp, one learns, was Priyanka’s. “One day, as we were sitting around the dinner table, Priyanka brought it up,” says her surgeon dad. Her mother, Madhu, a gynaecologist, will be part of the camp with many other specialists. The trio feels there’s
lots that can be done through a united approach. “Look around,” says, Priyanka,
“We have friends, family… I think it’s time to be grateful for that.
It’s wonderful to do something for society.”
Priyanka Chopra is releasing Dr Ashok Chopra's music album in Delhi on 20th march 2010.
