Drug overdose and drowning caused Scarlette’s death: Goa Police

British teenager Scarlette
March 13th, 2008. Panaji, Mar 13: Goa Police has claimed that British teenager Scarlette Keeling died due to a drug overdose and drowning in beach water.

The cops, however, have arrested another suspect, drug dealer Placido Carvalho in connection with the murder late on Wednesday night. Goa Police also faced fresh embarrassment when a doctor who conducted the first autopsy on Scarlette, claimed that the police had ignored his findings.

Goa Police has been insisting that Scarlette's death was accidental, but subsequently filed a murder case after a second autopsy was conducted on her body.

Meanwhile, prime suspect Samsung D'Souza, a 29-year-old bartender at a shack on Anjuna beach, has confessed and revealed the names of four others who were involved in the crime.

Placido Carvalho will be produced in court today and it is expected that he will be taken into police custody for further questioning.

Scarlette's mother, Fiona McKeown, has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying that there has been a cover up of the case.
