Lakshadweep is a Union
Territory of India which has around 36 coral off 300 km from the Kerala
coast in the Arabian Sea. Out of these 36 islands, there are only ten islands
which are inhabitable. The language spoken over here is similar to the
one spoken in Kerala. The main occupations of the people over here are
coconut cultivation, coir matting and fishing. These islands produce nothing;
everything required here is procured from the mainland India. This island
is primarily known for water sports as the waters over here are crystal-clear
and one can do everything from scuba diving to snorkeling here as well
as wind-surfing. These are most sought after tourist places but only 5
islands are open to tourism. The beaches over here are virgin and these
islands are encircled lagoons. There is restriction on the tourism because
of maintaining ecological balance. Bangaram, the resort for international
tourists, is uninhabited. The four islands open to domestic tourism include
Kavaratti (the administrative capital), Kalpeni, rich in coral and marine
life, Kadamat, known for its fine beaches, and Minicoy which has one of
the largest lagoons in the archipelago. Agatti has beautiful lagoons and
the airport is located here
