Mon Nov 27, 2006
NEW DELHI - Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan will replace iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan as the host of "Kaun Banega Crorepati", the Indian version of popular quiz show "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire", a statement said.Amitabh Bachchan made his second innings into bollywood with the start as a host of one of the most popular shows on the small screen, Kaun Banega Crorepati. The serial was an instant hit with Amitabh’s wit and charm and he went on to even do a second season as host of the show. Unfortunately the show came to an abrupt halt during the second season when Amitabh fell ill and was hospitalized. Since then there has been a lot of speculation about Amitabh’s return to host the popular television show. Well there’s good news and bad news for all KBC lovers, the show will be back on air early next year but unfortunately Amitabh will no longer be hosting the show. But none other than King Khan, Shahrukh has been roped in to host KBC.

After the industry buzzing with Shahrukh being roped in to play the negative lead role in Dhoom 3, Shahrukh has bagged another prestigious project and will be hosting KBC in the third season. According to some sources there was a fall out between Star and Amitabh as the latter was not showing any interest in committing to the show, hence the production house went ahead with Shahrukh for the third season. Star TV’s channel heads confirm that they approached Mr. Bachchan but he could not work out the dates as he was busy completing his pending films. Samir Nair, CEO of Star says “I think Shahrukh will do a fantastic job, he’ll bring his own unique charm to the show.” However he maintained that it was unfair to compare Amitabh and Shahrukh, as they each have their own uniqueness.

Shahrukh is equally kicked to host the show and return to the medium that propelled him to success, he says “I was surprised when they offered me the show. I was a participant in season one of KBC. Little did I know that one day I would be hosting it. It’s a huge act to follow that of Mr. Bachchan, but it also excites me that I’m getting an opportunity to interact with my audience through a medium where I began my career as an actor years ago.”

The format of the show will remain the same and according to sources Shahrukh has been paid a whopping amount to host the show. After doing the film Don which originally starred Amitabh, Shahrukh once again will attempt to step into Big B’s shoes, let’s wait and watch if he manages to do it well.
