relatives vent anger at media
PUNE: Parents, relatives and friends of the girls and boys arrested by the Pune rural police following a raid on a rave party at a farm near the Sinhgad fort manhandled reporters in front of the Yerwada jail late on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened around 7 pm, when four youths and two girls were released from the jail. A large contingent of print and electronic media and OB vans were waiting to cover the release of the suspects.
As soon as the youths came out of the main door of the prison, a few photo journalists rushed to take pictures. However, a group of 40 people comprising parents, relatives and friends rushed towards them and started abusing.
The group caught hold of Sachin Tendekar, a cameraman of CNN/IBN, and manhandled him. A couple of them snatched his camera and damaged it by flinging it into the air.
Cameraman Abhijit Janave of Sahara channel was also manhandled by the group, who also threatened other press photographers.
After about 15 minutes, the police intervened and brought the situation under control. Earlier, lawyers of these party-goers submitted 173 bail applications in the court of special judge R.V.
Deshmukh, who granted bail to 142. However, since bail was granted late in the day, the sanction orders could not reach the jail before the release deadline of 5 pm and the jail doors were closed.
