Even though a 35-year-old man from Mathura died of dengue today at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here, the Health Minister maintained that things had not gone out of hand.

In the last 24 hours, seven fresh cases of dengue have been reported at the AIIMS. According to the hospital authorities, Bansi, a resident of Mathura, was admitted to the AIIMS in a serious condition this morning. He died late in the afternoon. 

Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss’ assurance to the nation that things are under control is hard to digest. He today ruled out the outbreak of an epidemic and said there was no need to panic.

Reports indicate that12 cases of dengue have been reported from Haryana and seven from Punjab.

The Rajasthan Government has confirmed seven deaths due to dengue. This is besides the 193 cases of dengue that have been reported by Rajasthan. 

Uttar Pradesh has reported 70 cases of dengue, including 22 in Lucknow and 18 in Noida.

This has compelled the Health Ministry to call a meeting of the Health Ministers of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Thursday. 

According to experts, the areas in Delhi that are vulnerable to dengue are the Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, Meherauli, Narela, Shahdara and south zone. The Director-General Health Services, Dr R.K. Srivastava toady convened a meeting of heads of various hospitals to review the state of preparedness.
