| TV sting: 3 suspended
for fake encounters
GHAZIABAD: Three sub-inspectors were suspended and one of them arrested after a Star News TV channel sting operation exposed how they were willing to kill people in fake encounters. They have been booked under the Anti-Corruption Act while cases against two more SIs are likely to be registered. Satpal Singh of Meerut's Nauchandi Police Station (PS), Anil Samania of Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar PS and Mahavir Prasad of the Mathura police have been suspended. SIs Amar Singh Yadav of Agra police and MD Dixit of the Border Police are likely to be suspended. The channel's hidden camera purports to show the officers offering to kill innocent people in fake encounters. The admissions are made either for the promise of money or for promotions and medals. Meerut police range DIG, R K Vishwakarma, said: "One accused, Mahavir Singh, has been arrested. Investigations are on against the others." |
