New train from Kolkata
to Goa

A new train featuring a discotheque, live music and cabin crew will be
launched on a 10-day journey from Kolkata to Goa via Mumbai on 2 January.
The trip is being organized
by a Kolkata-based travel operator in partnership with the Indian Railway
Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC).
The cost of the trip will
be Rs35,000 per passenger, which will include transport in the three-tier
air-conditioned coach, a day in Mumbai and a three-night stay at Goa beach
resorts.
The 16-coach train, booked
by the operators from Indian Railways, will make the trip to Goa in approximately
36 hours. “This is the first time a private operator has booked a train
for retail tourism,” note the general manger of IRCTC for the eastern region,
Vivek Srivastav.

Srivastav added: “We
will be responsible for the on-board services, including food, hospitality,
housekeeping, public address system and security. A multi-cuisine menu
will be served on board.”
Rajib Mukherjee, the managing
director of i-nova, the company booking the train from the Indian rail
operator, commented: “An entire coach will be converted into a discotheque.
Folk and baul songs will be performed on board. There will also be other
entertainment options.”
When the train reaches
north Goa, passengers will transfer to beach resorts. “In Goa, beaches
are the most attractive places. Beach volleyball, water sports and rain
dance will be organised. The route has been planned in such a way that
passengers can enjoy the natural beauty,” Mukherjee added. |
