Penalty, charges fixed for extra construction in Delhi homes

New Delhi, Nov 24: Delhi residents will now be required to pay a betterment levy for extra coverage, additional floor or part of it they want to build in their homes beyond the current construction norms.

It will, however, be a costlier affair for those seeking regularisation of existing residential construction beyond the set floor-area ratio as they will be required to pay penalty and compounding charges above the betterment levy.

Sources in Union Urban Development Ministry said new Delhi Development Authority (Levy Charges for Residential Development) Regulations-2006 would soon be enforced in the national capital.

Regularisation charges on existing beyond-norm residential constructions will be applicable to additional floor coverage within or above the originally sanctioned but within 15-metre height.

Homeowners in posh A and B categories will be required to pay Rs 3,500 per sqm for new construction beyond the FAR norms, C and D colonies Rs 1,400 per sqm, and in middle-income E, F and G colonies Rs 700 per sqm for plots larger than 50 sqm and Rs 490 for plots up to 50 sqm
