New Delhi After applying brakes on commercial activities in residential colonies albeit after the intervention of the courts, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is now eyeing similar activities in Delhi Development Authority colonies and Group Housing Societies of the Capital. The MCD is preparing a list of such areas and this too on the directions of the Supreme Court appointed Monitoring Committee. According to MCD Additional Commissioner Parimal Rai, the civic body has the powers to seal properties in DDA colonies that are flouting building norms. "All DDA residential colonies have a dedicated building for commercial activities or a commercial complex in their vicinity. But there are reports of various commercial activities taking place in these houses which are not permitted and need to be sealed," Rai said on Tuesday. DDA colonies where the MCD sealing squad may turn up soon are Mayur Vihar, Gulmohar Park, Hauz Khas, Kalkaji, Sarita Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Dilshad Garden, Rohini, Dwarka and housing societies in East Delhi like Patparganj, Rohini, Shalimar Bagh and some other parts of the Capital. MCD sources said the three-member Monitoring Committee asked the Corporation to prepare the list and take action against such properties even in DDA colonies or Group Housing Societies. This means these colonies will not even have the advantage of staking claims of relief as per the MCD's 2,183 notified roads and another about 1,000 roads which are on the process of survey. If notified, these roads will be among the 2,183 roads which were already brought under mixed land use by the civic body on September 7 and September 15, 2006. Meanwhile, the MCD continued its sealing drive on Tuesday taking action against 131 illegal commercial establishments. The units sealed in Civil Lines, Karol Bagh and Rohini zones included 35 establishments on the Timarpur road and four on the Satyam Cinema road in Karol Bagh. Ninety-two shops were also sealed from Block A to F in Rohini Sector 11 and Badli village road in the same zone. With this the total number of establishments sealed since the sealing drive resumed on November 8 has reached 1,822. Penalty, charges fixed for extra construction
