Priyanka Chopra gets a deal with UTV
Mumbai, June 1 (IANS) Leading Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has signed a landmark mega three-film deal with UTV Motion Pictures, one of the largest production houses in India, becoming the first female actor in the Hindi film industry to do so.

If people still continues to say Bollywood can have only men Superstars then perhaps we should take a pause and think about that Priyanka has achieved. Considered one of the most reliable of the stars Priyanka has signed a unique mega project with UTV. UTV has signed her for a three-film non-exclusive deal that will be for 4 years. The major aspect of this deal will be Priyanka’s involvement in the creative areas of film making- choosing scripts, brainstorming about genres etc. This will determine Priyanka’s strong hold in the film industry. Announcing the deal, Mr. Ram Mirchandani, Senior VP-Creative and Projects, UTV Motion Pictures said, “We are very proud to be associated with Priyanka. Her achievements, in a relatively short span of time, are remarkable. Priyanka is today recognized as one of the most ‘bankable’ stars that we have. Her ability to straddle a variety of roles is reflective of her immense talent. We are very excited about this partnership and look forward to our long-term relationship with Priyanka.”

"I am very excited about my association with UTV. This association presents an amazing opportunity for me to work in a challenging, creative environment with some of the best minds in the industry. I am looking forward to creating celluloid magic together," said Priyanka in a press release Friday.

The deal, which will span over four years, allows the actress to participate in the creative areas of the films. She will be involved in brainstorming process of the films including the shortlisting of scripts and genres.

Ram Mirchandani, Senior Vice-President (Creative and Projects), UTV Motion Pictures, is full of praise for the actress who saw a meteoric rise in filmdom in a short span of time.

He said: "We are very proud to be associated with Priyanka. Her achievements, in a relatively short span of time, are remarkable. She is undoubtedly the reigning star on celluloid today and is recognised as one of the most 'bankable' stars that we have."

"Her ability to straddle a variety of roles is reflective of her immense talent. We are very excited about this partnership and look forward to our long-term relationship with Priyanka," Mirchandani added.

The deal surely puts Priyanka, who has two recent big hits - "Krrish" and "Don" in her kitty, on the highest pedestal. Her forthcoming ventures are "Drona" and "Love Story 2050".

The film based on the fashion industry and lives of catwalk models will feature many supermodels with Priyanka Chopra playing the lead

Madhur Bhandarkar of Chandni Bar and Page 3 fame has been restive to start his new film based on the fashion industry and lives of catwalk models. And news now comes that UTV may produce this film with Priyanka Chopra in the lead.

If this project goes through, this will be Priyanka's first film with UTV under her three-film contract signed recently.

Sources from Bhandarkar's production house say that many supermodels will feature in the film though Priyanka Chopra will play the lead.

According to Bombay Times, Bhandarkar had earlier approached her to play the lead in Corporate. However, there was a date conflict and the role went to Bipasha Basu, winning her several awards and nominations for the best role (female) category in prestigious shows through the past year.

Madhur, does not deny that he and Priyanka have been signed for a film by 'a production house'.

"I'll narrate the script to Priyanka when I am ready," says Bhandarkar, "It's important that Fashion does not overlap Page 3 or Corporate as they all come from the Page 3 culture. A section of Fashion will be shot in Paris."

Priyanka is also looking forward to working with Madhur and says, "I'd love to work with Madhur. He gets wonderful performances from his female actors."
