Priyanka in  Drona.
29 May, 2007
Priyanka Chopra is playing bodyguard to Abhishek Bachchan in the film Drona.
Most know that actress Priyanka Chopra is playing bodyguard to Abhishek Bachchan in the film Drona, and that she went to Punjab specially to learn the Sikh martial arts for the movie.
When we met the actress recently , and asked her about her experience , she said, "I had to train for this martial artform using kirpans and chakkars.
It was difficult and required a lot of flexibility. But I'm glad I managed."
Sounds impressive already.
Priyanka Chopra, the former Miss World 2000, will play a bodyguard armed to the hilt and wield the sword to combat enemies in her next film Drona.

After having trained in martial arts for her role in the 2006 remake of Don, Priyanka has been learning to wield a kirpan, with as much élan as a real Sikh swordsman.

Chopra stars with Abhishek Bachchan who plays superhero against Kay Kay Menon cast in a villainous role. Bachchan's good friend Goldie Behl will direct the venture.

"It's an unconventional role that your average Hindi film heroine doesn't get to do," she said recently to 'Screen', a film magazine.
"I had to learn a Sikh martial art called 'gatka', which needs precision skills. It involves a lot of complex movements using the kirpan.

"As part of my training program, I had to fight an entire group of people using a sword," she added. Chopra insists on doing most of her stunts herself.

Priyanka played the female lead against superhero ‘Krrish’ played by Hrithik Roshan in a hit film by the same name. In Don she was paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the role of a swift and fearless underworld gang member.

But grit and swiftness is not all there is to the svelte beauty who was recently picked up to be the brand ambassador of Lux, a well known Indian bathing soap touted as the beauty soap of the stars. Only the most glamorous of Bollywood's leading ladies get to endorse the product.

From big banner films to big brand endorsements, Priyanka seems to be moving swiftly ahead.

After papa Amitabh Bachchan playing on-screen dad, it's now Jaya's turn to play reel life mother to son Abhishek in family friend Goldie Behl's next movie 'Drona'.

While Abhishek has played Amitabh's son in more than one film, Jaya has so far not had an opportunity to play screen mom in any Hindi film. In the Bengali film 'Desh', Abhishek put in a special appearance as Jaya's NRI son.

Not only is Goldie Behl one of Abhishek's closest childhood friends, his father, producer-director Ramesh Behl, was also one of Jaya's close friends.

Jaya acted in one of Ramesh Behl's biggest hits 'Jawani Diwani' (1972) and its not so successful follow up, 'Dil Diwana'. When Ramesh Behl produced 'Yeh Vada Raha' in 1982, Jaya dubbed for its leading ladies Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim.

Goldie hasn't made a film since his debut 'Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai' in 2001 with Abhishek Bachchan.

Priyanka Chopra has been cast alongside Abhishek in 'Drona'. "It is a big film in terms of canvas and budget. But it has only three main characters played by Jaya-ji, Abhishek and me," said Priyanka.

Incidentally, Jaya and Abhishek are also coming together in Pradeep Sarkar's "Laga Chunri Mein Daag", though not as mother and son.
