Dilli Haat Pitampura
The new Dilli Haat apart from showcasing the art, craft and culture has many more things to offer to the visitors. The gateway to the Haat will serve as a street plaza. Vendors selling everything from paper toys and balloons to popcorn will get space on the walkway, giving a feel of Delhi’s street culture. The Dilli Haat is being constructed by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) and its foundation was laid Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, in March last year. This will be the second Dilli Haat, after the one at INA, and is being constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 23 crores. While the gates of this much awaited cultural center will formally open after some time but Delhi Tourism has already started organizing cultural shows here to make its presence felt. "Recently cultural events were organized on Baisakhi and now we are looking on celebrating Teej," said a senior official. The new Haat has been designed keeping in view all the requirements of craftsmen and the visitors which were lacking in its early avatar. The haat at Pitmapura has a hostel block and storage space for craftsmen. It also has a bigger parking space which can accommodate 208 cars and 151 scooters in the basement within the complex. DTTDC is also planning to come up with another Haat at Janakpuri, which is awaiting approval from the DDA. Once approved, it will be the biggest haat covering an area of 10 acres. The Janakpuri haat will not only be the biggest but will also introduce a new concept of “Haat Beat-Dilli Haat with a music centre”. There will be music towers which will host an educational and resource centre, a performance space and a museum A lot of effort has gone into making this project eco-friendly and visitor-friendly. To avoid pedestrian-vehicular conflict, entry from both sides, i.e., Metro station of Netaji Subhash Place and Ring Road no.41 has been provided in a planned way. In addition plan for constructing a foot-over bridge on road no.41 has also been finalized. To solve the parking menace, which is a common at the INA Dilli Haat, 8000 sqm of basement parking space has been provided, with a parking capacity of 232 cars and 210 two wheelers. Apart from the usual features
of INA Dilli Haat food courts and crafts shops, there will be a spice market,
sculpture court and art gallery in the Pitampura Dilli Haat. In addition
to making proper arrangements for crafts exhibition and cultural festivals,
this time arrangement has also been made for the accommodation of craftsmen.
Keeping this view in mind, there will be a double storey dormitory for
craftsmen with a capacity of 96 beds.
