with Karan She’s known for her curves, charisma and controversies. And
he is the ultimate eye candy for women. Host Karan Johar’s guests on tonight’s
show are Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Rampal. The burning topic of discussion
right now is the controversial casting couch and Priyanka and Arjun have
their take on the issue. They also talk about their successes and failures,
and Chopra’s current aitraaz of showing skin on screen. Here’s are some
snippets.
Karan: Suddenly, you have
been slotted with Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor and Preity
Zinta. You are an A-list, mainstream girl. How does it feel? Priyanka:
It’s very flattering and I did not expect that. I don’t come from a filmi
background, I don’t know people here, and it’s just been a year-and-a-half
since I have been here. It feels great that the industry accepts you. Karan:
You are affable and amiable. And you get along with all these girls, even
with Kareena Kapoor who every girl seems to have a problem with. Priyanka:
I got along really well with her. She is really nice. Karan: There is a
new stand you are taking, no exposure suddenly? Priyanka: It’s a conscious
decision. I don’t want to be known for exposure. Karan: Are you trying
to say that the girls who show skin are not going to ever make it into
the big league? Priyanka: No. I never said that. That’s how I started.
It happened with me in the beginning. I did do an Andaaz. I did wear a
bikini. It’s not something I can say I am ashamed of. But it is not something
I want to do now. Karan: How many times recently have you refused kissing
scenes in films? Priyanka: I have not done any one. Karan: Anyone you want
to kiss on screen? Priyanka: No, those things I keep for privacy. Karan:
Arjun, you have women going weak in the knees. Has your knees rattled?
Priyanka: I don’t know how to be mean. I am not even going there. Karan:
Good looking — you have heard that a lot. Has it ever frustrated you? Arjun:
It’s got nothing to do with me. This is the way I am, they find me good
looking and I make money. Karan: What happens when you have a string of
flops? How does it bother you? Arjun: It does bother you. Because all you
want to do is good films and I consciously do want to do it because I am
very passionate about films and I want the films to work. I work on every
film really hard. But I guess you just got to be strong. Mr Bachchan had
10 to 12 flops before he became Mr Bachchan, so there is a man who has
rocked it even after so many flops and disasters and is a great example.
Karan: You have been from the modelling world, where they say there is
a casting couch even for men. Have you been subjected to it? Arjun: (Laughs).
I don’t know. I have not seen it. I have not experienced it. It is not
the people from the fraternity but people from outside. There are gay people
in the fashion industry there is nothing wrong in being gay. Karan: Have
you felt the vibe around you ever? Priyanka: When it comes to the casting
couch, no. I have never had to go through it or been even offered or felt
the vibe of it because when I came into the industry I was already Miss
World. And before that Miss India just happened so the media knowing who
I was. Karan: Arjun you are happlily married to a beautiful woman. But
how do you stop yourself? So many beautiful women like Priyanka surround
you. Lara, Sushmita and Aishwarya. You are a man at the end of the day…
Arjun: As you said, I have a beautiful woman at home. I don’t feel the
urge to go for anything else. Karan: Rang De Basanti didn’t work out; any
problem with Aamir? Arjun: I had a problem with the director. I was signed
for the film; I had got a new look for the film, blocked my dates and that’s
why I am sitting on your show today (Laughs). But I think it just became
very confusing as the director was very confused about it, and fair enough,
I think I am happier it didn’t work out.
Karan: Priyanka, there is
so much talk about the alleged romance with Akshay Kumar. Priyanka: I am
honestly tired of it because there is enough that’s been said. Karan: Does
it upset your working relationship? Priyanka: Of course it does. I just
seem to be crowned as the controversy queen and I detest it. I just want
to be known for my work. I have my family. He has his. Just let it be…
