Priyanka flags off medical
camp
July 23, 2005
Last week, Priyanka Chopra
flagged off a registration drive for the Mega Medical Camp community service
programme organised by Kasturi Polyclinic.
Her parents, Dr Madhu Chopra
(gynaecologist) and Dr Ashok Chopra (physician and cancer surgeon) own
the clinic.
Affordable healthcare
Says Dr Madhu Chopra, “The
idea is to provide quality services to people who can’t normally avail
of them, at affordable prices. Bone cancer detection was one of the services
provided at the camp, as the bone density level of children and old people
were checked.
“One of the highlights of
this camp was the HIV-AIDS special screening we had. We explained to people
that there is no reason to be afraid of the illness.”
Aimed at the needy
The camps will be conducted
once every two months — the next one will be on ophthalmology and some
of the rest will include ENT problems and allergies. Says Priyanka, “I
will be involved every time because it is part of the community service
I believe in.”
Her father adds, “We will
be concentrating mostly on children, poor women and geriatrics, as these
groups are most neglected. We also plan to hold ENT camps in the future,
where we will donate free spectacles and ear aids.”
Kasturi Polyclinic is a multi–speciality
centre in Oshiwara. Says Dr Madhu Chopra, “I am pro-life; we don’t allow
abortions here.”
