‘Jewel
heist’ on Palace on Wheels
July 02, 2008. JAIPUR: A diamond heist may take place on board the luxury train Palace on Wheels (POW) some time next year. And you can get a close-up. That’s because a reel life heist is planned on board the train for the Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones-starrer Racing the Monsoon. However, a final nod from the Railways and the tourism ministry is awaited. Sources confirmed that Further Films and Percept Picture Company, co-financiers of the film, have sought permission to shoot some sequences on board the POW. The company took the initiative after Douglas chose a few locations in Rajasthan during his recent visit to the state. The film, a sequel to Romancing the Stone, deals with a diamond heist on a running train. The plan is to shoot the robbery sequences on the POW that departs from New Delhi and runs through several locations in Rajasthan during its seven-day itinerary, said sources in Precept Picture Company. If the plan comes through, it’ll be the first Hollywood film, and third commercial one, to be shot on the POW. Dev Anand’s Main Solah Baras Ki (1997) and Chiragdeep International’s Talaash (2003) were shot on the train. The train has been locale for a number of documentary films too. The general manager of
POW’s central reservation office in New Delhi, JP Pathak, said the request
would be finalised at the ministry level. Sources told DNA that the permission
for shooting could be delayed, if not denied, since the PoW is booked for
the ensuing tourist season from September to April.
