Take
a tiger safari in Ranthambore
JAIPUR, Jan. 10: The Rajasthan government has come up with a proposal to introduce tiger safari at the Ranthambore National Park. Forest department officials said tourists taking the safari will no longer have to venture deep into the park to spot tigers. About 10 km of land on the park’s outskirts has been identified as a safari zone. The department has decided to introduce zoo tigers into this zone in a phased manner. “The highlight of this safari is that tiger lovers are guaranteed a view of the tigers without much difficulty,” said Mr RN Mehrotra, chief wild life warden, Rajasthan. Three zoo tigers have been identified to be introduced into the safari zone. Tourists taking the safari will be able to drive around the enclosure in closed vehicles. The safari is being introduced in the wake of heavy tourist inflow to the park. Once the safari is started, tourists interested only in tigers can opt for the safari in the outer circle of the park, rather that going in search of tigers in the inner areas. “This will also ensure that the core area remains undisturbed, making it easier both for the animals and the tourists,” he said. The tiger safari proposal is likely to be given the green signal by the National Board of Wild Life in the second week of February. The state government has
also charted a plan to construct a corridor linking the Ranthambore National
Park to the forest areas of Khandaar and Darrah.
