launches night safaris in Ranthambore
Jaipur, Jan 11 : The tourists would now be able to enjoy night safaris in the buffer area of Rajasthan's Ranthambore national park. The forest department has launched night safaris in Ranthambore in Sawai Madhopur district. And if the night safaris become popular, these would be launched in other wildlife parks and sanctuaries of the state. "The safari has been launched in the buffer zone of the park, which is outside the boundary of the national park," an official told IANS here Friday. Officials said the night safaris would help tourists to spot wild animals at night. The first trip of the five-km safari, from Jhumar Baori to Mirza Ghati in Ranthambore, is between 7 p.m. and 9.30 p.m., while the second trip starts from 9.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. "The night safaris will give an opportunity for the tourists to see wildlife in the evening and at night," the official said. Each tourist would be charged Rs 300 per trip. At present, morning and afternoon safaris are organised inside the national park. The Ranthambore national park was declared open in 1981. It covers an area of around 400 sq km. In 1974 it was included as part of the Project Tiger. According to a recent census, the park has 32 tigers - up from 26 in 2005.
