Elephant Festival
The unique annual Elephant
Festival in Jaipur is all set to return in 2011. Celebrated along with
Holi in Jaipur, Elephant Festival is one of the most popular festival in
Rajasthan.
As the name suggets the
prime attraction of the festival are Elephants. The festival takes place
at the Chaugan ground in Jaipur where Elephants participate in varieties
of events to entertain the crowd.
Elephants have a huge
significance in the state of Rajasthan. During the days of Kings, Elephants
were not only used during the wars or served as a ride for the Rajput Kings.
The elephants were used to entertain the special guests. The Rajasthan
Tourism has decided to continue to old tradition of the state and turned
it into a heritage event.
Only female elephants
takes part in the Elephant Festival. There are several competitions in
which elephants participates. Events like races, polo matches, beauty pageant
and the main event of the festival is tug war between 19 man and woman
and a elephant.
To showcase the the royal
past of Rajasthan to the tourists apart from elephants, chariots, lancers
on horses, camels and cannons are used during the festival. The festival
is must visit for the foreign tourists. Its a great time to travel Jaipur
to watch the Elephant Festival followed by the Holi - The festival of colors.
