New Palace on Wheels

"Palace on Wheels", a luxury train for tourists, which got a facelift recently with splendid new interiors and added facilities, is all set to chug out again from Wednesday. "The train will depart from the Safdarjang Railway Station in Delhi tomorrow for historical places in Rajasthan, marking the beginning of its new season," a Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation official said.

The train, launched to promote tourism in Rajasthan, had acquired a new look with maginificent new interiors and added facilities, he said.

A Spa coach had been added for the first time, the official said.

The luxury train, highly popular since its launch, will operate every Wednesday.

You'll be delighted you chose to see Rajasthan by the Palace on Wheels. On board, you'll feel like an erstwhile monarch, traveling in regal splendour. Each Coach named after the erstwhile princely state has 4 twin bedded chambers, thoughtfully decorated in ethnic Rajasthani decor. Channel Music, intercom, attached toilets, running hot & cold water shower and wall to wall carpeting are some of the facilities to make you feel at home. Each saloon has personal attendants or Khidmatgars, who are to your beck and call to extend a courteous helping hand, should you need anything.
The 14 coaches are named after former Rajput states matching the aesthetics and interiors of the royal past. Each saloon has a mini pantry and a lounge to ensure availability of hot and cold beverage, and refreshments and a place to relax and get together.

14 fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons, each a combination of 4 twin bedded chambers with channel music, intercom, attached toilets, running hot and cold water, shower, wall to wall carpeting and other amenities. The furniture with its inlaid motifs has been specially created for the Palace on Wheels.
New Palace on Wheels Restaurants
The train has two lavish New Palace on Wheels Restaurants "The Maharaja" and "The Maharani" with a Rajasthani ambience serving palate tickling Continental, Chinese, India and Rajasthani cuisines.

The train also boasts of a well stocked bar offering the choicest of sprits of Indian and international brands. Each coach also offers a good collection of books to choose from.

Great news for tourism in Rajasthan. The state’s luxury train, Palace on Wheels has been declared the fourth best among the top 10 luxury trains of the world by the travel magazine Conde Nast. For 2009, the magazine had asked its readers to vote for their favourite train.

They were asked to rank each train out of 100 points. Palace on Wheels attained 83.94 points and was ranked fourth below the Venice Simplon-Orient Express (89.92 points), Eurostar (86.92 points) and Pride of Africa, Rovos Rail (84.25 points). There is no other luxury train of India in the top 10 trains. The newly launched Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (RROW) was not ranked since it is a new train.
