His recent encounter with love has proved more gripping than any on screen potboilers. His wild outbursts with his so called girlfriend, Miss World-turned-actress Aishwarya Rai has landed him in direct violation of the Law. Media has ostracized him as wild brute while religious fundamentalists have tried to stifle him on moral grounds. He stands accused of manslaughter and has been in the center of the Endangered Deer Hunting controversy. Come fall of 1998, Salman Khan saw himself being pushed into corner by series of legal troubles which landed him in a hot soup. While shooting for the song sequence, 'Mhare Hivda' in Jodhpur, Rajasthan for Yashraj's ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, he accompanied several costars for a hunting excursion in Thar Desert. They inadvertently lost their way and ventured into Bishnoi reserve, where Salman shot a black buck, a member of an endangered species, a punishable act under Indian Penal Code. As a tribe that worships and considers sacred all forms of life The Bishnoi Tribe, physically took the actor under their custody, only to hand him over to unrelenting local police authorities and the magistrate put him in jail, quite mercilessly. The scandal turned out be a jackpot for the Press & Media who went overboard in churning out one story after another against the hapless actor and trying to tarnish his image. Sanam. Rumors of physical abuse with his Pakistani girlfriend Somy Ali have always existed. And somewhat similar charges have been leveled by Aishwarya Rai’s family who have never really approved of their relationship in the first place. The media was more than happy to report the Salman’s anguish and despair as he, as neighbors claim, screamed, howled and pounded the doors Aishwaya’s apartment pleading to be let in. The whole affair of sore relationship and bitter emotions came to broad daylight, when Aishwarya's parents lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police, accusing that an inebriated Khan pelted stones on windowpanes and broke the furniture in Aishwarya's home threatening them with dire consequences. The Rais categorically stated in the complaint that they "should not be held responsible for any untoward incident involving the actor." (B4U TV, Jan 2002). Then an agitated Khan barged onto the sets of Aishwarya' upcoming film Ramesh Sippy's Kuch Na Kaho’, literally shoving the actress to the ground. It was only when spectators intervened that he was forced to leave. While rushing back, he banged his car into Aishwarya's, injuring her and leaving witnesses shocked. (B4U TV, Jan 2002). when Ranbir, actor Rishi Kapoor's son, while commenting on an attractive girl allegedly said, "Wow, she's gorgeous. She reminds me of Aishwarya." On the edge of his temper, Salman lost his nerve and attacked Ranbir all guns blazing. Salman tried to compensate for his misdemeanor by giving a gold watch to Ranbir followed by several designer shirts to convey his apology –but soon the press found out the whole story. (Cineblitz, Mar. 2002)] Within a week after Rai's interview, Khan, while on his way back from Night Out, ran his car over four men sleeping on the pavement, leaving one dead and injuring two others. Khan ran away from the scene in spite of the presence of a policeman in his car ( Policeman was a part of the police protection given to Salman in view of threats from the underworld mafia). His claim was that he felt his life was under threat by the gathered mob after the collision while others allege that all this was to avoid a blood-alcohol test. Khan responded by revealing that it was his bodyguard after all who was driving and not him. The claim of the policeman present there, clearly implicated Salman as the person who was driving. Subsequently, the protection services to the actor were also called off, although it had nothing to with the accident. Even before the case goes
to trail, many quote similar precedents and are apprehensive on the issue
of Salman being convicted. One of the more frivolous charges leveled against
him question his inclination to remove his shirt at every drop of the hat.
Some are more inquisitive about what those principles are while others wait for his next release ‘Marigold’ an Indo English production featuring Salman. The plot revolves around a B-grade Hollywood star who is left in the middle of no where while shooting in India. And then she has to accept a role in a Bolywood flick, to pay for her travel back. Directed by Hollywood’s Willard Scot the movie will make Salman the only leading man to brace and face the American suburban audience, as the edited movie opens in America. Let’s hope his life gets on track, as Salman’s career is still going pretty strong, contrary to the wishes of many. Salman's life and career
has been a roller coaster ride, without much planning which other contemporaries
have been blessed with. His debut in offbeat flick as Farouque
Years later, Salman’s Never-say-die loyalists swear by him despite his alleged mood swings. Whether it is Sooraj Barjatya, Sanjay Bhansali or even David Dhawan he is a Golden boy to all of the directors. Apart from Govinda, David Dhawan’s eternal favorite Salman is the only star who has struck a chord with the plump director. From 'Judwaa' (1997), 'Biwi No. 1', to 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' and quite recently ‘Partner’which is a big hit, Salman continues to make you laugh and cry at the same time. Sanjay Bhansali. 'Khamoshi' (1996) saw Salman unleashing his acting talents and depth. Playing a role of a sensitive music composer in love with a daughter of deaf & dumb couple, his acting capabilities came to the fore. He followed this with another stellar performance in 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' playing opposite Aishwarya Rai, who was by that time being linked to Salman, as his love interest. Both of them have denied it time and again, and are keeping shut about it. But Salman kept quite and let his work do the talking. Scoring numerous hits in succession, for Salman there has been no looking back. His movie career has gone from strength to strength and he has a carved out a niche for himself, which many only dream about. Attempts to blot his image have had no bearing on his soaring popularity and career graph. In fact his contributions to Indian cinema can not be discounted for any reason whatsoever. He commands respect, love and appreciation from his peers and other quarters of public life. His qualitative work has found enough takers as well as critical acclaim. The continuous streak of commercial success in the last one and half decade, make his movies, a collector’s delight. He’s a movie buff’s dream come true and an ageless poster boy who has kept the entire nation entertained for years on end. Many envy his magic with people and his uncanny ability to strike it with the audience. But all said and done, he has still got years on his side and miles to go. For the time being there seems to be no stopping, personally and professionally. There’s only one Salman Khan and he simply goes on. .......Back---Salman
