Big
B - Apologise
September
10, 2008. Actor Amitabh Bachchan has spoken out on his wife Jaya Bachchan's
anti-Maharashtrian comments, a day after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief
Raj Thackeray rejected her apology in Mumbai Mirror.
Speaking
to NDTV, Amitabh Bachchan said, "Jaya didn't say anything wrong didn't
say anything wrong, but if it hurt sentiments we apologise."
"I
am being targeted because I'm Amitabh Bachchan, I'm a celebrity," Bachchan
further said.
Here
is what Big B posted on his blog earlier, "The casual off-the-cuff remarks
made by her at the music launch function were without malice or deliberate
intent, but if it has caused hurt to the sentiments of Maharashtra, Maharashtrians
and indeed the city and citizens of Mumbai, then she must seek regret and
offer apology. Everything that we possess today is what came to us from
this great state and city."
"Mumbai
and Maharashtra has given us glory and recognition. I am 66 years old and
40 of those years have been spent living in Mumbai. Is it ever possible
that we will dishonor it? Never!" the actor wrote.
Meanwhile,
Raj Thackeray's workers have started targeting the Bachchans over Jaya
Bachchan's remarks.
The
premier of Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'The Last Lear' has been cancelled
in Mumbai.
"The
producers of 'Last Lear' have decided to cancel the premiere," Amitabh
Bachchan said.
Raj
Thackeray's supporters on Wednesday vandalised the Juhu PVR where the premier
of the film was to be held following his threat that no Bachchan film will
be screened until they apologise.
Though
Jaya Bachchan apologised in an interview published on Tuesday morning,
the MNS said it would not suffice, and demanded that the SP leader apologise
publicly, on television if necessary. “Our stance will remain the same
and the agitation will continue till she (Jaya Bachchan) renders a public
apology,” said Nitin Sardesai, a spokesperson for the party. “The police
have detained several party workers — at least five to seven persons at
each police station,” he added.
On
Monday, the MNS chief had demanded that all films and promotional campaigns
featuring Amitabh Bachchan and his family members be banned after Rajya
Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan made an apparent light-hearted remark that she would
speak in Hindi as she belonged to Uttar Pradesh
