Amitabh Bachchan leaves
hospital
Fri Oct 17, 2008. MUMBAI - Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was discharged from hospital on Friday, almost a week after he was admitted to a Mumbai hospital for abdominal pain. "Doctors attending to him did their final check up this morning so that they could prescribe whatever medication he has to take and allowed him to go home," Dr Narendra Trivedi, vice president Lilavati hospital told Reuters over telephone. However, Trivedi refused to give details about the diagnoses and whether Bachchan would require any further treatment. "I do not have any details on that as yet. I will know only in the evening once I have consulted with doctors attending to him," he said. Television visuals showed Bachchan waving to the crowd outside the hospital with his son Abhishek besides him before leaving in a car. Bachchan, 66, was rushed to Lilavati hospital on Saturday, which was also his birthday, after complaining of abdominal pain.
It’s unfortunate that Amitabh Bachchan has been hospitalized but thankfully he has been responding positively to the treatment. Incidentally the reason for his hospitalization, acute abdominal pain, is the same for which he was admitted in 2005. This gives him the image of someone who cannot resist gastronomical urges which is only cemented by his binging inclination towards junk food like kachoris , et al. But apart from these occasional exceptions, Bachchan is known to live a much disciplined life. For the uninitiated Bachchan gets up at 6 every morning and hits the gym for two good hours even at this age. Bachchan is very particular about physical fitness and has training instructors guiding him on a regular basis. Noted trainer Vrinda Mehta who was his personal trainer said, “He is a very dedicated person and goes through his exercise regime without any complaints.” At 8:30 he leaves for his next-door bungalow Prateeksha where he spent a long span of his life with his parents. He spends at least half an hour in his old abode before returning to Jalsa, his present residence. 9:30 am and the sexagenarian
leaves for his shooting commitments. At an age where most of his contemporaries
have called it quits and are enjoying a retired life, Bachchan starts his
day which continues till 6 in the evening, on most days. Amitabh Bachchan
has always been used as a metaphor for punctuality in this industry. At
this age, he tries to keep shooting schedules within the 9-6 span, whenever
possible. Thereon till 10 pm he devotes his time for social activities
and events and he is the only actor who doesn’t take any money for endorsing
a noble cause for ‘non-brand associated’ events.
Late at night he personally sits down to read the response to his blogs, something that he has taken to very dedicatedly and replies to them and writes new ones. The timings on his blog records would reinforce this fact. In most cases, he goes to bed only by 2 or 3 in the morning. This happens to be his daily routine most of the times, except obviously when he’s traveling for shoots and shows. That systematic approach should give Bachchan the tag of not just a ‘method-actor’ but also ‘method-human being’. And had it not been for his insomniac traits, Bachchan would have been a much healthier person. It is his lack of rest to rejuvenate the body that has resulted in him being hospitalized yet again. Perhaps that’s why the family chose to admit him in the hospital where he could be guaranteed some rest. At least that’s what Bachchan’s close friends are saying.
Prime minister wishes Amitabh Bachchan a speedy recovery New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday spoke to actress Jaya Bachchan, wife of ailing Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, and enquired about his condition. Singh also wished Amitabh, who is undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, a speedy recovery, sources said. Amitabh Bachchan had to be hospitalised on his 66th birthday following complaints of abdominal pain. The hospital, in a press statement released on Sunday, said that Bachchan was recuperating and would most likely be discharged soon. “Mr Amitabh Bachchan had a restful night at Lilavati Hospital. The doctors attending on him are pleased with his recovery. The tests do not suggest any abnormality. Under the circumstances, medicines have worked. Within a few days he should go home,” the press statement said. Bachchan is suspected to be suffering from incisional hernia, a recurring problem that has been troubling him since the near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982. He had undergone surgery after the accident following which he suffered from myasthenia gravis, an ailment of muscle weakness. Bachchan also underwent a surgery on November 30, 2005 for abdominal infection Diverticulitis. The superstar, who had been shooting for Leena Yadav's Teen Patti till Friday, has a number of film projects worth around Rs 100 crore riding on him. Sun Oct 12, 2008. Earlier in December 2005, Amitabh Bachchan was successfully operated upon for infection, inflammation and perforation in his small and large intestines at Leelavati hospital. Bachchan was admitted to Escorts Hospital in New Delhi on November 28, 2005 following complaint of abdominal pain and was brought to Leelavati Hospital, where he underwent treatment for almost two months. Bachchan was brought to Nanavati hospital in an ambulance and there were conflicting reports on just how ill the actor was. When contacted, Radiology Department of Nanavati Hospital said X-ray of his stomach and chest were taken and the actor left the hospital at around 1240 hrs (IST). However, his office maintained
it was a “regular check-up”. Bachchan had no shoots lined up for Saturday.
The Bachchans are regular at the Lilavati Hospital. Many Bollywood stars undergo treatment there and last month Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was also admitted there. Amitabh's daughter Shweta, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya accompanied him to the hospital, while Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh who was to take part in the birthday celebrations later visited him at the hospital. |
