November 8, 2010 : If reports are to be believed, Amitabh Bachchan is all set to copyright his legendary baritone that has mesmerized the audience for such a long time. Recently, Amitabh Bachchan got angry after a gutkha manufacturer used a voice double to record an advertisement promoting his products. After the incident was brought to the veteran actor’s attention he said that he has never promoted tobacco products and will never do so in the future. As for the voice caricature part Amitabh is going to copyright his voice so that no one can use it to market their own products. Although it is a good gesture from the senior actor, but inst it going a bit too far?
"Not only is this unethical and wrong, it paints me in bad light as well... For someone that does not smoke or propagate smoking or any kind of intoxicant... it is most disgusting to find someone conflagrating the law of the land," Big B wrote in his blog."Work in this direction is in process," he added.
He said that the same rule applied to the use of actors' images. "Caricatured images are used for commercial gain without our permission and this is completely undesirable. So yes, we move to protect ourselves," Bachchan said.
"I do not have a problem
in its use, but... contractual obligations have to be brought in, to protect
the celebrity or his or her brand," Amitabh added. So the next time you
hear the baritone, you will know it's no one but Amitabh.
