Ganga in Mayapur
Mayapur : The legend is that Mayapur (old name was Miyapur) was the actual place of birth of Sri Chaitanya Dev. Mayapur became more famous worldwide because of the headquarters of ISKCON or International Society for Krishna Consciousness. There is a big temple Chandrodaya and at its entrance there is a statue of late Prabhupad, the founder of ISKCON. There are Bhakti Sarang Goswami Maharaj Math, Shreeman-dir (supposed to be the birth place of Chaitanya Dev), Advaita Bhawan, Shyam-kunda and various other temples. There is also a tree nearly 500 years old which is being worshipped by people. There is a mound of soil, which is known as the Mound of Ballal Sen, erstwhile ruler of Bengal of Sen Dynasty. The temple of Chandrodaya is open up to 1.00 pm only but other temples remain closed during 12 to 4.00 hr. The whole area (3 km) can be visited by hiring a rickshaw.

ISKCON Candradoya Mandir

This is ISKCON’s international headquarters (Hare Krishna movement). Plans are underway for construction of the largest temple built in India in the last 200 years, at a cost of over 100 million dollars. Surrounded by a Vedic city, the temple will include a Vedic planetarium. At the present time there is a temple, various guest house facilities, Srila Prabhupada’s Pushpa Samadhi, the rooms where Srila Prabhupada lived, a hut where Srila Prabhupada stayed, a gurukula school, a goshala (dairy), and beautiful gardens.

The main Deities are Radha-Madhava. The Deities are larger than life-size. There are also eight gopis, four on each side of Radha-Madhava. To the left of this altar is another altar with an impressive Deity of Narasimha.

On the left altar are Deities of the Pancha-tattva—Advaita Acharya, Prabhu Nityananda, Chaitanya, Gadadhar, and Srivasa Thakur
