Amitabh Bachchan will
carry the Olympic torch Thursday, during the Olympic Torch Relay, organised
ahead of the opening ceremony of the grand sporting extravaganza in London.

"The very prestigious
Olympic Organizing Committee, headed by its chairman, Lord Sebastian Coe...
sends an invitation to be a part of the Olympic Torch Relay tomorrow as
the flame passes through London, on its final journey into the Stadium
for the Opening Ceremony, London Olympics 2012," Amitabh Bachchan wrote
on his blog srbachchan.tumblr.com Wednesday night.
Amitabh’s tweet read,
“OK !! HERE IT IS : Have been invited by London Olympic Organizing Committee
to carry the torch in the relay tomorrow (Thursday) ...,”. To articulate
his gratefulness for the honor that has been bestowed on him, the actor
added, “Honored to be asked to carry the Olympic Torch in London at Southwark
around 10:30 AM !! A proud moment for me and country.” |
The 69-year-old veteran will
cover a distance of 300 metres at Southwark in the Borough of London starting
around 10:50 a.m, "a moment to be hopefully remembered by the grandchildren,"
he added.
The opening ceremony is
to be held Friday and Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has teamed
up with Danny Boyle, artistic director of the opening ceremony, to compose
a track for the pageant, reports say.
Rahman has written on
his Facebook page that he has composed a "track in Punjabi celebrating
the Indian influence in the UK".
