Commonwealth Games chief in Delhi to visit venues Michael Fennell will inspect various stadiums, which have been hit by construction delays, and meet government officials to get an update on security for the October 3-14 mega event. Michael Fennell’s visit also gains importance because a few of the Commonwealth nations have raised doubts about security during the event and they would be eagerly waiting for a report from the CWF chief to take a final decision. Speaking about the venues, Organising Committee vice-chairman Randhir Singh had said on Monday that all the stadiums are in ‘top-class shape’ and will be ready within a week’s time. ‘We checked each and everything minutely. Although minor work remains, everything will be completed in a week’s time. By August 25 all the things will be done,’ Singh, who is also the secretary-general of Indian Olympic Association, had said. Commonwealth Games Federation
head Mike Fennel is in the Indian capital, Delhi, to inspect last-minute
preparations for the games.
Earlier this month two
leading officials from the organising committee were suspended.
Things have become so
serious the Indian government has appointed a new group of ministers to
oversee the preparations.
