The Delhi high court has added to the sensation in the clash between the Cellular Operators and Municipal Corporation of Delhi over the sealing of the mobile tower by appointing a new panel to scrutinize the matter on Monday.

The panel will primarily check whether the towers are leading to a health hazard in the regions. HC has also mentioned the need for the regulation of mobile towers and antenna installations.

“Thanks to improved connectivity owing to a large number of cell towers, more people in India have access to mobile phones than toilets, but concerns of health problems caused by radiation cannot be ignored,” quoted HC.

It has directed the MCD and the telecom ministry to constitute a committee with technical and medical experts, NGOs, cellular associations and public spirited persons and present a report on the harmful effects of these radiations within 3 months.

The current sealing will continue until September 15.

Justice Kailash Gambhir has secured an interim relief to the cellular operators by permitting them to operate mobile towers in the city by depositing Rs 2 lakh, reduced from 5 lakh as recommended by the MCD.
