Preparations
are on in full swing for a show which is unlike any other.
The show is called ‘Hamara Gaurav’. Yes, the show will have dances. Yes,
the show will have music. Yes, the show will rock! And yes, you may wonder
as to how this is different from any other dance shows that happen all
the time?
Well, the big difference here is that the main performer at this show is a mentally challenged young man. Yes friends, the star of this show is Gaurav Sehjpal who suffers from a disorder called ‘Downs’ Syndrome’ due to which this 28 year old young man has the brain capacity of a 15 year old and has speech disorder and lethargic movements. When he was born, Gaurav’s parents were shocked to learn that their only son was not going to be a ‘normal’ child. However, they took it on to themselves to groom this child not as an abnormal child but as a ‘special’ child. They put in all the efforts to bring him up as normally as possible while honing his extra-special talent in dance. Gaurav has trained under Irfaan (in the initial years) and Shiamak Davar (he is a part of the troupe which performs in ‘I Believe’, a very prestigious show put up by SDIPA). ‘Hamara Gaurav’ is the result of the confidence that Gaurav has in himself to be able to carry a whole show on his shoulders and more than that, it is the confidence of his parents who are determined to show to the world what a so-called abnormal person can achieve if he is given the right nurturing and support. So friends, if you want to see the real life manifestation of the words – will, determination, faith, inspiration and talent, book this date in your dairy – Feb 3, 2011, Venue: St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra (W), Time: 7 pm onwards. The show ‘Hamara Gaurav’ is open to all who wish to be inspired and motivated (entry free). |
