Congress will form the
government: Sibal
New Delhi, May 5 (IANS)
Echoing Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, senior party leader Kapil
Sibal Tuesday expressed confidence that the party will form the next government,
and not sit in the opposition.
“The Congress will not
sit in the opposition. We will form the government. On May 16, the arithmetic
of politics will be clear. We will figure out whether we need a coalition
this time or not,” he told reporters at the press conference called to
announce 15 local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were joining the
Congress.
Addressing a press conference
earlier Tuesday, Gandhi said: “We don’t think we are going to sit in the
opposition.”
Trying to woo the Left
parties, Sibal said: “All secular parties have a common ground and Left
is secular. If people lose faith in the Left parties, then that is a different
case. We are not influencing the people against the Left.”
In a dig at the Bahujan
Samaj Party (BSP), Sibal said it could not do anything for the Dalits just
by constructing buildings and putting up statues with public money.
Also present at the press
conference was Shoaib Iqbal, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) legislator from
Matia Mahal constituency - a part of Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency
from where Sibal is contesting - who expressed his support for the Congress
party. |
