New Delhi: US president Barrack Obama today addressed the members of the parliament and spoke about issues ranging from bilateral relationships to terrorism, economic pacts to atomic energy, India’s emergence as an economic power to regional security. In her vote of thanks after Obama's speech in the central hall of parliament which was applauded by members of both houses, Meira Kumar said his speech was not only exceptional but had filled the air with dynamism. The MPs listened to the speech of Obama in pin drop silence and applauded him from time to time for his positive remarks towards India and its rich heritage. Vice President Karzai read the welcome speech and invited Obama to address the members of the Parliament. It was a touchy gesture from Obama when he concluded his dpeech with- ‘Jai Hind. May the partnership between India and United States.’ During the course of his speech, the members of the houses applauded Obama for 35 times by clapping. Lok Sabha speaker delivered the vote of thanks, and praised Obama for his enlightening speech. She pointed out that both the countries are affected by terrorism and thanked him for his concerns. The main points of Obama’s speech are as follows: -Obama applauded India for its huge leap in the recent times and said that India is not an emerging economy of the world, but it has already emerged and is a very important country not only for Asia but for the whole world. -Obama praised India for the hospitability and said that he and his wife, Michelle, were highly inspired by their stay in India. -In a major statement, Obama backed India's bid for a permanent United Nations Security Council seat. In his speech, he said: 'I look forward to a reformed United Nations Security Council that includes India as a permanent member.' -He said that India and US should keep on working together not only for their benefit but for the benefit of the whole world. Obama said that India is an important country that has the power to influence the whole world. -Obama tried to create an emotional bondage by repeatedly mentioning Mahatama Gandhi, Panchatantra, Vivekanand, Chandni Chowk, Punjab, India's rich cultural heritage, etc. He said that to bring a change in the world, the teachings of Mahatama Gandhi are very relevant. -Obama said Indian trip is his longest foreign visit of his reign. He said that India and US should come together to define the fate of 21st century. He said that US would assist India in agriculture sector and also expressed that Indian and US people should come together for mutual benefits. -Obama praised Indian democracy and said that free and fair elections is the base of Indian democracy., and both India and US are leading democracies of the world. -He also spoke on nuclear energy, and said that for peaceful nuclear energy, everybody should own the responsibility. -Speaking on terrorism, he said that terrorists camps in Pakistan is not acceptable. The network of terrorism will be demolished. For regional security, US is in favour of Indo-Pak dialogues. -He extended his tribute
to the victims of 26/11 and 9/11 tragedies. He asserted that the perpetrators
of 26/11 Mumbai attacks will certainly be penalized. He said that there
is no place for terrorism.
