Priyanka Chopra won the Best
Actor (Female) Award for her moving performance in Fashion.
Among the award winners’ speeches, Javed Saab liked Priyanka Chopra the best. “I told her she should get another award for her speech. She was so gracious to the other nominees. Her best comment was that after Dostana her father won’t mind if she brings a girl home. One feels so proud of the younger generation. I feel happy and embarrassed to be getting awards along with my own children. Lekin dil to abhi bhi chahta hai.” Director Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Jodha Akbar' and Actor Farhan Akhtar's debut movie 'Rock On' bagged five awards each at the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards tonight. Though I have been nominated earlier also and had won awards too, but this being my first ever nomination for the Best actress category makes it all the more special.” Bachchans are finally here!
Nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, Abhishek Bachchan expresses, “It's not really about the nomination but about the recognition that an actor gets for his work. Though it's great to be nominated and I'm glad to see my name in the same sentence as that for best actors. Taking over from hubby, Aishwarya adds, "I completely agree with what Abhi said, it's always nice feeling to be here at this award night among the film fraternity and see everyone applauding for your work. First to be spotted on the red carpet was the musical trio of Shankar Ehsaan and Loy in all black attires. Next making an entry was choreographer, singer Shiamak Dawar. So, what’s the man looking forward to? “Well, the highlight of today’s celebrity performances has to be Shahid and Abhishek Bachchan.” But who’s your favourite? “Shahid is my student and is my favourite. Junior AB is full of energy and both are hard workers. Not that others aren’t good but they are very special to me,” shared Dawar on the red carpet in the middle of directing the star performances. The Rock On! effect
The golden couple, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi is the next to make an impressive entry. Hear what mom Shabana has to say about son’s nominations? “We are proud of Farhan and his work. Shabana is wearing an Anuradha Wakil’s outfit. Arjun Rampal, who is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for Rock On! , arrives with wife Mehr Jessia is wearing a Muskino. “It’s really good to be nominated for Rock On! Preity Zinta enters the starry venue in a black gown, in which she appeared to be a bit uncomfortable. The lady seems to be in a sporty mood, as IPL was all that she crooned for here as well. “This year we are looking forward to a stronger team,” said Preity when asked about her next move in the field. But where’s Ness Wadia? Well, the lady preferred to make a quiet exit. The Filmfare Awards are here, what are you wearing for the red carpet? I have a couple of options, but am still to make up my mind. I might ultimately go for an Alberta Ferretti gown, but then again, it may change at the last moment (smiles)! Are you expecting to bag the Best actress award? I don’t want to expect anything because if you attend an Awards function with expectations, there are chances that you might get disappointed. I fully trust Filmfare and am sure they’ll recognize the best talent. You have done an equally fabulous job in Dostana , (which has been nominated for Best Film), so didn’t you expect two nominations in the Best actress category? There is always one film for which your outstanding performance is being noticed and you get an award nomination. Fashion was written that way, with a real-life touch to it. Dostana , on the other hand, was a light-hearted flick full of comic scenes, so the two really catered to different genres. But I’m really happy that Dostana has been nominated for the Best Film category... let’s hope it wins the award! Who do you see as the biggest competition in the Best Actress category? You see, all of them are big competitors in their own way. You have evergreen heroines like Kajol and Aishwarya, who have been in the industry for so long and then fresh faces Anouska and Asin are equally good. So, it’s going to be really touch and go! But how justified is it to have debut actresses and legends compete for the same award? I think the amount of years count when it comes to awards. Kajol and Ash have been there for almost 15 years now and Anoushka and Asin have just started in Bollywood, though Asin has done a few South films. I am just five years old in the industry, so it’s not really a reason to decide who the best is. It depends on your journey in Bollywood and the honesty and hard work that you have given to it. How do you feel about your co-star Kangana Ranaut being nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Fashion ? I really hope she gets the award because it has been one of the finest performances of the year. Kangana did complete justice to her role and it should be applauded with an award. If you get the award, who is the first person you would like to thank? First and foremost, it has to be UTV and Madhur Bhandarkar for making a film like Fashion . Especially Madhur for believing in a character like Meghna Mathur, the role for which I am being nominated, because I really didn’t think it would be so big!
