Review: Ek
Tha Tiger
Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ranvir Shorey and Girish Karnad. India is in safe hands with RAW spies like Tiger (Salman Khan) who chase, beat and gun down enemies of the state no matter which foreign country they are in. Forever on the move, Tiger’s latest assignment is to observe the movements of a certain Trinity College scientist in the UK. Accustomed to using his fists for getting information, our desi 007 finds it a bit difficult to get close to this aloof scientist. But there’s the professor’s beautiful housekeeper Zoya (Katrina Kaif) who can help Tiger. In the guise of a writer, Tiger prances around with Zoya and ends up falling for her; just as his colleague Gopi (Ranvir Shorey) had warned him not to Director and co-writer Kabir Khan takes the larger-than-life Salman Khan persona and wraps it in an engaging story that services it. Of course it's played out like a comic book but if you're willing to suspend disbelief there's fun to be had. Salman is Tiger, a super-heroic RAW agent who sprints, shoots and crunches bones without a glimmer of worry or sweat. He's also smarter than the ISI baddies he's up against, all of which is established in a kick-ass opening sequence that has nothing to do with the film. But he is only half a James Bond; unlike 007, Tiger has no women. In fact, he hasn't taken leave in 12 years. But then, a mission involving anti-missile technology takes him to Dublin, where he meets Zoya, played by Katrina Kaif. Tiger's steely resolve is no match for her beguiling smile. The intrigue goes for a toss and we move into-full blown romance. Salman Khan is good as Tiger except that his expressions can seem a bit blank at times. Katrina Kaif is lovely as Zoya and smoothly carries off her bubbly and emotional scenes. Though Ranvir Shorey doesn’t have much screen time as Tiger’s comrade Gopi, he is wonderful in his role. Girish Karnad performs well as Tiger’s boss, Shenoy. Salman Khan's most anticipated movie Ek Tha Tiger, which has hit the screens across the globe today, has received an earth-shattering opening at the Box Office in India. Salmania is at its peak at the collection centres. Trade experts say that this Kabir Khan directed film is sure to set a new record at the Box Office with its first day collections. The theatres across the country screening Ek Tha Tiger were overflowing with movie buffs within and outside in the morning shows. In many places, the theatre owners had to call the police to control the mob. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#EkThaTiger hysteria at its peak! Rajasthan distributor tells me police from 3 cop stations had to be called at a multiplex in Jaipur." Ek Tha Tiger has managed
to drive unprecedented crowd outside both single screens and multiplexes
across the country. The Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer has registered
100% occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes. The film had huge
amount of advance ticket booking and remaining few tickets were sold out
early in the morning.
